Early Years
Early years
So, I’ve been doing this for a while…
The Beginning
I have been interested in art for as long as I can remember and have always loved history too, thanks to my mum’s retelling of British history, especially the Tudors and Mary Queen of Scots. When I was nine years old I realized I could combine my love of history and art if I became a costume designer, and I never looked back.
I fell in love with historical clothing and developed a passion for the Victorian era. I nagged my parents for sewing lessons and the first thing I wanted to make was a Victorian dress made from taffeta. It took me a year to learn to sew first, before my teacher would let me make the dress, which took at least another six months to complete, but I was very happy with the result.
It’s been eight years since then and I am now more passionate than ever about costume design, so I am applying to college to make my dream come true.
This was the dress that started it all. It was for the Earth Day Trashion Show in third grade and was made out of Vons plastic bags which were woven together on my loom.
For the 5th grade Trashion Show I made a crinoline dress out of coat hangers and plastic sheets that come back with my dad's dry cleaning.
When I was 10 years old I started sewing lessons and decided to make a Victorian dress out of taffeta.
I was very proud of myself after making this dress in elementary school.
I made this skirt for my fifth grade graduation as well as my best friend's dress.
This was my first middle school art gallery. My best friend and I did a collaborative piece of art as well as our own independent work. I happened to have made my skirt too.
Every year I've done an art gallery at school to show off my most recent designs.
